Continuing to battle with a split league in the
Northwest, the Pacific Football League morphed into the NPFL with Pierce
County hanging on as the flagship team and newly formed Oregon City
taking up the helm left by the collapse of the Portland Thunderbirds.
The Puget Sound Kings (also known as the Kitsap Kings) joined the league
as well. Pierce County won the league but was crushed by the
California champion Twin City Cougars for the West Coast Championship.
The Bengals would finally fold up along with the
NPFL and the Steelheads would be welcomed into the rival NIFL which
finally had outlasted the last bastion of competition in the region.
