Following the 1927 season, members of the "Independents" like Vic Scott, Carroll Nelson, Bill Hudson, Ed Donnelly, Heime Bendele, and Ed Asberry combined with the Ballard team to form a formidable squad in the league.

The 1928 team roared through the "SCL" led by Johnny Gaffney who scored 2 rushing TD's against the Jefferson Jeffs and 3 more against the Taiyo Club.  Broadway and Ballard battled for the SCL Championship on Dec 2 with the BCC coming out victorious.  Sponsored by Pacific Chair, the team was commonly referred to as the Ballard Pacific Chairs.  Ed Asberry became the first black player on the Ballard Club team

In 1929 The BCC was not scored upon and undefeated until meeting the University Athletic Club who promptly clobbered Ballard in the League Championship for their first loss in almost 3 full seasons.  Johnny Gaffney broke his elbow in game 2 of the '29 season and was out for the remainder of the year.  Gault Steele was a former Jefferson Park standout who came over to Ballard in 1929.  Heine Bendele led the league in scoring with 70 points, while his defensive play ranked equal to his offensive output.

The succes of the Ballard Athletic Club team ended up being it's downfall as Gonzaga and the University of Washington raided the team, along with others signing with Madrona.  After winning the Community League championship in 1928, tying for the 1927 crown and being runners-up in 1929 and posting an 11-1 record over the last two seasons, T.O. Hoagland, secretary of the Community League announced the withdrawl of Ballard from the league on October 1, 1929.

After a one-season hiatus, the organization reconstituted as Woodland Heights for the 1931 campaign replacing the University Club in the community league.  The squad rolled through the league with only an Atlantic Street tie in the finale as a smudge during the Community League championship run.  Following the league season, Woodland Heights traveled to Port Townsend and was soundly defeated by the Coast Guard team there 18-0.

In late November of 1931 it was announced that Woodland Heights and Fremont Community Clubs would merge.  The 1932 squad ran through an up-and-down season breaking even on the record.  The following season, the team would be rebranded back to a similar name as the Ballard "Athletic" Club as one of the six members of the Puget Sound Football League.  Ballard and Everstate, coached and quarterbacked by former Woodland Heights teammate Hurley Boggess, would finish the regular season in a tie for the top spot.  It took a 72-yard broken field run for the 6-0 win to send Ballard down to defeat in the title game.  Neither teams would return for 1934 as the Great Depression squeezed families tighter and teams lost players.  Johnny Budnick would surface with Wiseman's U-District in 1935 along with Carl Schildt.
