The changeover from the Boise Roughriders to the Speed in 2007 was a season filled with heartbreak as Boise lost it's first two games by a combined 8 points. The season went downhill from there finishing 0-9. The Speed rebounded in 2008 going 7-3, but lost a 3-point playoff game to the Idaho Matadors, a team the Speed had handled twice during the regular season. It was decided the Speed and Matadors would merge for 2009 creating the Boise Bombers.
