Following a very successful 2008 inaugural season, a drop off was probably inevitable. Many of the Blackshirts had come over from the spring league Oregon Monarchs and after back-to-back seasons and another spring season to kick off 2009 some players had played nearly 35 games in 12 months, and decided to hang up the cleats for the year.  Many key players from the '08 season including GNFA Northwest Player of the Year Russell Schneider did not return.

The 2009 season without the Monarchs players proved too difficult and the Blackshirts season was disastrous and the team folded following at the end of the year.  Some of the players and coaches would surface in 2010 with the Northwest Terminators.
