The Taiyo's were a branch off of the Nippon Athletic Club following a philosophical split between the older traditional Japanese players and the younger "youth" of the club.  Bad blood was the name of the feud which spilled into all aspects of sports including football and baseball.  It was determined to never make the two teams face each other as the Marines would need to be called out to maintain order.  George Green, brother to "Ham" Green, coach of the Nippon Club coached the Taiyo's.

Prior to the 1929 season, talks had been entered about combining the two Japanese teams, Taiyo and Nippon, to help strength the previously winless teams from the 1928 season.  The talks fizzled and the two teams remained separate.  Both teams went winless again until meeting each other and battling to a 7-0 Taiyo victory.  The "youngsters" had succeeding in humbling the "elders" and the two squads combined forces in 1930.

Yamagamachi bolted 80-yards for the feature run of the game when the Taiyo defeated Woodland Heights 13-0 in 1932.
