Created by Mike Haggett, a well traveled player and coach who began a semi-pro journey in 1984 playing for numerous Northwest Football League teams ending as a player in 1997, Haggett coached with the Snohomish County Vikings, Eastside Chiefs and Olympic Peninsula Eagles before building the Thunder in 2007.  Mike would work with Dick Seuss in the creation of the Cascade Football League, Western Washington Football Alliance, and serve as Washington State Football League commissioner.  The many hats would take up most of his free time and may have stretched his time too thin.

Opening the franchise with a 48-0 win over the Seuss-created Pirates, things looked briefly on track until a three game skid was finally halted by the second meeting with the Pirates in 2008.  Following the second win over Puget Sound with a one-point win over Tacoma, the Whatcom Raiders crushed Snohomish County 72-0.  Avenging an earlier loss to the Eagles entering the playoffs, the same Eagles kicked the Thunder from the playoffs 13-12.  Nine players would be named to the Cascade League all-league teams.

After the one-point playoff ouster at the hands of the Olympic Peninsula Eagles in 2008 the Thunder hoped to be a CFL contender in 2009.  Those hopes were dashed in the opener when eventual Washington Football League champion Wenatchee blew out Snohomish and Kitsap hung 70 the following week.  The Thunder were demolished most of the season giving up 47+ points in 8 of 11 games including 68 or more three times.  The season closed with a 39-12 loss to the winless Jaguars of the NAFL.  A bright spot for the season was four players earning all-league honors.

The Thunder like the rest of the CFL teams went through turmoil after three weeks when the league fractured and the Thunder joined the departing teams in the newly formed Western Washington Football Association.  After a forfeit by the Tacoma Warriors who folded up after 3 forfeits due to reportedly not having uniforms, Snohomish went on a rare two-game winning streak sandwiched between shut out losses to the Colts and Ravens.  The season ended with 6-straight losses including a dismantling by the Stallions 72-8.

The Thunder never fully recovered winning only 3 games in the next five seasons including a 26-game losing streak, fourth-longest in region history.

2015 Snohomish County Thunder

Following the 2015 season, owner Mike Haggett tried to lead the formation of a new league called the Northwest Football Alliance for 2016.  The league never made it off the ground and the Thunder played an Independent game with the Washington Raptors before numbers dwindled away.

Moving to Bremerton, the team attempted to reform as the South County Thunder in 2018 and again in 2019 returning to Snohomish County with plans to play in the Washington State Football League but pulled the plug just weeks before the season.  Dec 17, 2019 it was announced a name change to the South County Vikings and joining the WSFL.  The "Vikings" played one game before shutting down due to a lack of players.

Later, it was announced that Coach Haggett had purchased the uniforms of the Seattle Stallions franchise from Doc Dressen and would be rebranding the organization as the Puget Sound Stallions.  The Stallions never took the field in the midst of Covid-19 lock downs and the WSFL closed down.

Overall, the Thunder franchise could not reach the success Haggett expected to create, finishing with a 10-60 record from 2008 to 2021.  What cannot be denied is the love for football that Mr. Haggett had to continue to be involved at the semi-pro level for nearly 40 years even during what must have been some of the most frustrating times for the former player.
