Commissioned on May 20, 1918, the New Mexico served with the Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor from Dec 6, 1940 through May 20, 1941.  She joined the Atlantic Fleet at Norfolk, Virginia on June 16th, 1941.Following the attack on Pearl Harbor the ship returned to the Pacific Fleet following refitting at the Puget Sound Navy Yard, Washington.

 

Following the war, the ship made ports of call in Okinawa, Pearl Harbor and the Panama Canal before arriving in Boston to be decommissioned on July 19, 1946.
