Jared Neumeier
Rocky Mountain Football League
Commissioner / Team Owner / Player
1997 - 2010
Jared Neumeier, seeing a need where no team existed,
founded the Idaho Falls Mustangs in 1997 as one of four
inaugural teams in the Rocky Mountain Football League
(RMFL). As an invaluable support for RMFL founder, Matt
Culbertson, Neumeier instituted the first RMFL All-Star
game in December of 1998, dubbed the "Ice Bowl" as it
was played in near zero degree temperatures in
Pocatello, Idaho. As a quarterback and place-kicker,
led the Mustangs to 3 RMFL Championship appearances
in 1997, 1998 and 2000, winning the RMFL
MVP award in 2000. Following his retirement as a player
in 2000 the RMFL Managing Board of the Rocky Mountain
Football League installed Jared as league "commissioner"
in January of 2001.
After the RMFL saw a "purge" losing a number of
established teams in 2001, dropping membership down from
9 to 5 teams, Neumeier set out to rebuild the RMFL
through his transparent management style and innovative
web site and game improvements. The RMFL grew from 5 to
27 teams from 2001 to 2010, expanding from Idaho to
include Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Nevada and Colorado
organziations. Over the course of 10 years, Neumeier
wrote more than 1,000 articles and press releases, not
including game stories for every RMFL game while he was
commissioner. Neumeier also wrote comprehensive
pre-season reviews of each team, including player
evaluations and predictions for the upcoming seasons.
Neumeier created an integrated statistics data base and
reporting system and developed a complete RMFL records
database tracking RMFL stats back to its earliest days.
Neumeier created an active game-day game reporting
system so that games could be followed in real time on
the league web site. Neumeier retired as commissioner of
the RMFL after the 2010 season, leading a league with
less than 100 total players and building the league to
more than 2000 active players. His Mustangs team
he founded in 1997 is still active in 2018 under new
leadership, continuing on the path Jared set it on two
decades ago.
His selfless dedication to the semi
pro game, the elevated integrity of the league, and the
recognition of the players efforts on the field made the
Rocky Mountain Football League the benchmark in the
Northwest during his tenure. Jared literally
helped build something great out of absolutely nothing
and his leadership style is one all commissioners should
strive to emulate.
