Ken Driscoll
Bellevue / Eastside Express
Inside Linebacker
1983 - 1985
If you wanted to run with the big dogs in the NFA of the
early and mid-80s like the Auburn Panthers, you better find
a defense. How about a Parade All-American and former
University of Washington captain at linebacker?
Driscoll was no stranger to the limelight in Washington
football as his star started burning bright early on in high
school when he was tabbed a Parade Magazine All-American in
1977 while playing fullback at Mt. Tahoma. Spending
the next four years at the University of Washington, his
linebacking skills helped Don James and the Huskies to Rose
Bowl and Aloha Bowl wins in 1980 and 1982 respectively. A
captain his senior year, it seemed natural that a player of
this caliber would be highly sought after in the semi pro
circuit, and the Express won the day in locking down his
services after the NFL passed on the undersized (5'11" 215
lb) tackling machine. Driscoll had 151 tackles to lead
the Huskies in 1981 as a junior, to follow up his team-best
140 as a sophomore.
The tackling machine continued from 1983 through 1985 as the
perennial 1st team All-League linebacker made play after
play for the Express in their quest to chase down a
championship that was nearly within reach as they played
tight games with the Auburn Panthers. Ken would be
named player of the week on numerous occassions, now adding
interceptions to his defensive package, starting the first
four games of the 1985 season with an INT in each one.
Driscoll anchored an Express defense that put it's stamp on
the NFA as one of the contenders each season.
