Nathan
Enciso
South
Sound Shockers
Middle
Linebacker
2006-2009
"Big Nasty". A nicknamed earned in
college as a four-year starter at the University of Puget
Sound, Enciso brought a toughness and intellignence to the
game that coach Steve Matychowiak once said "far exceeds
what you normally see at this level. Two inches taller
and there is no doubt Nasty Nate is playing on Sundays".
With the Shockers, Enciso was the
undisputed leader and heart of a defense that forced 76
turnovers in 2007. First-Team All-Region three
consecutive years, his accolades were an avalanche from
across the National spectrum. His presence in the
middle turned even the best running opponents into passing
teams, as he consistently diagnosed plays hitting holes
before backs and blockers could get to him. Forcing
plays to the outside, teammates Jackie Triplett (2007
Defensive Player of the Year) and Ron Strozyk (2009
Northwest Player of the Year) reaped the statistical
benefits from their defensive end positions.
Big Nasty, was even a force on the
Shockers offense, as the short yardage package known as
"Heavy" featured him at tailback. This one-yard a
cloud of dust power set produced much more as the
240-pounder carried 30
times for 150 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Enciso finished as the all-time Shocker
leader in tackles (318) and Tackles-for Loss (34) during his
four seasons.
