One of the Canadian "Junior" football clubs that played against
Northwest semi-pro teams over the years, Abbotsford began play in
1987 and ran through the early 2000's. Founded by Bill
MacGregor who also served as head coach of that initial 1987 team.
The former Vancouver Meraloma
and Simon Fraser University Clansman was selected by the BC Lions in
the 1973 Canadian League draft. MacGregor was inducted into
the British Columbia Football Hall of Fame in 2013. One of the early stars of the Air Force team was Rob Lazeo. The 6'5" 300-pound offensive lineman earned an Air Force scholarship and later attended Western Illinois University from 1992-1995. From there he was drafted 12th overall in the first round of 1995 by the Saskatchewan Roughriders spending 14-seasons in the Canadian Football League with the 'Riders, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and the Calgary Stampeders where he won a Grey Cup in 2008 and was named a CFL West All-Star. In 2011 he received the Calgary Stampeder President's Ring Award for excellence and leadership on and off the field. Lazeo was inducted into the Abbotsford Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
