Boise, Idaho caught the club football bug in the 1800's with a November 12, 1892 meeting to announce the formation of the Boise Football Club. The men interested in playing were split into two teams for a Thanksgiving Day exhibition at the Natatorium operated by John McGuigan who opened the doors of the resort to the teams on practice and game days. Richard H. Johnson was selected to officiate the game. The Blue team would be anchored by Trowbridge, a halfback with experience playing at Yale. while the Red team was led by Lieutenant Joseph Castner, a former Rutgers (NJ) College product stationed at the 4th Regiment Barracks of Fort Boise. Snell kicked off the scoring first, snatching a fumble out of the air and running in for a Red score. Perkins kicked the 2pt PAT for a 6-0 lead. Capwell scored next for 10-0 lead in favor of the Reds. The Red team would score one more time to take the 14-0 victory over the Blue squad. The Idaho Statesmen penned an article on Nov 25, 1892 that read: "We had a game of football yesterday. Now let us have another. If there is a city within 500 miles of Boise that has a team let us go after it and wipe the earth with it". Pringle C. Jones, former center for Princeton was announced on Nov 5 as the new captain of the reorganized team for 1893 and were expected to play another Thanksgiving game with Salt Lake City. For 1894 and 1895, Caldwell would be the opponent for a Thanksgiving series with Boise running away with the 1895 game 32-0. After playing the Fort Boise Calvary to a tie on Thanksgiving, the return game on Christmas Day resulting in a 'fiasco' that forced a forfeit be called when the soldiers left the field. The disput was over J.E. Thompson, captain of Boise breaking a gentleman's agreement to keep Chales LeMoyne on the sidelines, when LeMoyne entered the lineup just a few minutes into the game. LeMoyne, from Boston was a well known athlete of exceptional talents who had won a wrestling championship in April. Thompson would resign as captain of the team and take up the coaching mantle for Weiser on the Oregon border. Doc Morden would take over the Blue and Gold of Boise from Knox Taylor.
