The rise and the fall. A semi-pro story that can be told everywhere, the Generals became another in the long lineup of 'all-star' champion to fleeting memory. Formed by former Boise Stater Jerry Smith (1999-2003) The Generals, with all of the promise of Division 1 offensive firepower from Boise State Univesity, good coaching and a seemingly solid front office discovered a defense was a necessity in the Rocky Mountain Football League. Scoring points wasn't necessarily a problem in 2012, however stopping other teams was. The 'team that barely practiced' lost tight high scoring battles and was dropped in the 2012 playoffs by Utah's Uintah Basin Oilers, and finished 4-5 in the inaugural season. Changing philosophy and finding some defense, the Generals burned bright for six weeks with that high flying offense on full display, this time backed by a defense. Outscoring opponents 322-0 enroute to a 6-0 start, Boise cruised to an undefeated season and Rocky Mountain League AA Champions in Season Two. Boise State alumns Cam Hall, TJ Acree, BJ Rhode and Jerry Smith were key components. Rhode played for the Boise Burn indoor team prior to the Generals and finished 2013 with 2,854 yards passing and 43 scores to follow up a 2,985 yards and 33 TD effort in 2012. Fate turned quickly as a roster turnover on the field as well as off brought the franchise tumbling to a 3-5 record and the Idaho Matadors nailing the coffin shut with a 24-7 win to end the Generals 2014 season. The Generals would not return for 2015, but their 2013 legacy is enshrined in a number of offensive categories in the GNFA Record Books led by Quarterback BJ Rhode and Receivers T.J. Acree and Jerry Smith. DO YOU HAVE INFORMATION TO CONTRIBUTE? CONTACT US! (email)
