The Boise Oilers were an early member of the Idaho Contact Football League dating back to it's 9-man days and made the switch to 11-man during the 2016 through the 2018 season earning high playoff seeds all three seasons and reaching the championship game in year two. The 2016 season was bookended by a season opening 2-point loss to the Boise Roughriders before reeling off eight consecutive victories before facing the Roughriders again in the playoffs where they were again defeated 24-5. Defensive lineman Wyatt Johnson, playing with the Billings Wolves of the Indoor Football League in 2015, was signed by the Bismark Bucks of the CIFL following his 2016 season with the Oilers.

The 2017 season was ended at the hands of the Idaho Tribe, four-time ICFL champions. The Tribe and Oilers met earlier in the season with the Oilers taking the win and the inside track only to stumble the following week, losing to the Idaho Black Tide. In the championship rematch, the earlier 7-point victory was wiped away by a heartbreaking 2-point loss to end an 11-2 campaign.

The 2018 season would see a similar scenario play out only this time it would be the Black Tide and Tribe switching places. Following a 27-18 victory over the Tide, The Tribe would take the Oilers out for their first loss of the season a couple of weeks later 21-7. In the playoff rematch, the Black Tide eeked out an 18-17 victory to end the Oiler season in the second round of the ICFL playoffs.
