After the Seattle Titans and
Snohomish County Ramblers folded
following the 1978 season, both teams finishing as bottom dwellers
of the NIFL standings, a majority of those players formed the core
of the newly formed Lynnwood-Edmonds Lions for the 1979 season by
Joe Brown. Following the Northwest International League Jamboree on August 4th, the team went out to Spokane the following week and were demolished 59-0 in front of a crowd of 9,000 Golden Hawk fans. According to a Spokane newspaper article, Joe Brown forfeited the franchise and liquidated after attempting to fire head coach Henry Carsberg following another huge loss to the Pierce County Bengals. The players mutinied against Brown and refused to play the Seattle Cavaliers if the coach was fired, forcing Brown's decision to shut down the Lions. Carsberg then led a co-op team which played out the Lions' schedule as the Edmonds Chargers without Brown at the helm. Finishing 2-6, the Chargers were disbanded and players likely surfaced with West Seattle, a new start-up team that played the 1980 season without a mascot named, but would eventually become the "Warhawks".
