Corporal Edward Gundlach stated the team Fort Casey defeated on Oct 26th was not the regular Flagler team, "it was a scrub team, over two-thirds of them having never played the game before".

After 1917 Fort Flagler was basically desserted but for about 15 caretakers.  On January 11th, 1941 Captain Milton H. Clark of 14th Coastal Artillery Battery G was sent to reopen the fort.  Football made its return in the fall.
