Coach Tom Davis guided the GIs to a 1957 Rain Bowl victory scoring in
each quarter to run their record to 6-0 on the season. Left
halfback Eddie Esteban scored on a 60 yard sweep and passed for another
score, while QB Bob Hannon sneaked over another score. Defensively
big Jim Hughes, under contract with the Cleveland Browns, intercepted a
pass scoring for the Panthers, while end Bill Surber tackled a Falcon
runner in the endzone for a safety.

Scot Jeffs bolted 97-yards for a TD, Frank Giannini and Bob Loftin added
the other scores as the Panthers defeated Yakima Valley to open the 1958
season.
Dale Lovelace (FB) and Bob Wayburn (HB), scored TD's after long drives,
but a 90-yard interception return for a TD was the difference in a 19-13
loss to the Ramblers
Lovelace exploded for over 150 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns in
defeating Bakersfield. Bob Hannon passed to Frank Costa for two other
scores. Bakersfield featured a young quarterback named Tom Flores
who would go on to play for and coach the Oakland Raiders during a Pro
Football Hall of Fame Career, inducted in 2021.
Sam Salerno was named outstanding lineman of the Regimental League while
playing for the 1st Battle Group, 22nd Infantry team. The
Washington Redskins owned his contract in 1958.
Ben Hammond, Clarence Norris, Bob Hannon (QB), and Smissen (G) were
selected to bolster the All-Star team facing the Seattle Ramblers on Nov
30. The All-Stars defeated the Ramblers 19-14.
