Glen Faustman
Quarterback
British Columbia Chargers
The rare Canadian to be in consideration for Player of
the Year honors and the only winner, Faustman was a
major dual-threat quarterback as the Chargers climbed
from the cellar of the Northwest International League in
1970 to the top team for much of the season.
Under the tutelege of former 1960 AFL and NFL draft
pick (Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns), three-time
CFL All-Star running back, 1964 Most Outstanding Player
and 1968 Grey Cup Champion Lovell Coleman, Glen led the
way to a season end three-way tie with the Kirkland
Bulldogs and the Snohomish County Ramblers with one of
the most prolific offenses the Northwest had seen.
The Chargers would be denied the NIFL crown on
the heels of a Halloween nightmare, a 3-0 loss to the
Bulldogs after a sputtering offense drove into scoring
territory only to miss field goals from 24, 30 and 35
yards. The 10-3 Chargers would be invited to
challenge the Bramalea Satellites for the Canadian
Senior National Championship, losing to the 5-time
winners to finish 10-4.
Faustman would lead the
league with 15 passing touchdowns to go with 3 scores on
the ground, edging out teammate Billy Robinson, the
outstanding flanker and defensive back who was not only
on the receiving end of 6 Faustman scoring strikes, but
added four touchdown returns on defense.
Glen
would move over to the Burnaby Barons for the 1972
season, and in 1974 would sign a training camp contract
as a flanker with the Canadian Football League B.C.
Lions.
