Jack Savage
Guard
Multnomah Athletic Club Winged M's
With football having it's roots in rugby in 1892, every
team needed guards who could hold the line and press
forward for the short yards. Jack Savage fit that
bill.
Savage played like his namesake, as the
6'3" giant opened gaps and holes in the defense to
spring his teammates like Kendall for touchdowns, and on
defense he swallowed up line rushers and was an
immoveable force in the middle along with his center
Leland.
You won't find his name in the record
books, or with gaudy statistics, but those who faced him
in the "trenches" remembered the name Jack Savage for
years to come as the Multnomah Winged M's were the
strongest team on the coast.
