Jeff Fisher
Bellingham Eagles, Puget Sound
Jets, Northwest Avalanche, Bellingham
Bulldogs
Defensive End/Tight End, Coach and Owner
1996-2011
One of the "good character guys" of semi pro football, Jeff
Fisher earned that title off the field, but on the field, he
could flip that switch and be one of the toughest and
competitive players between the white lines.
"Bigfish” started his Semi Pro career in 1996 under Richard
Fleck with the Bellingham Eagles. Coming off a
professional fighting career he needed a change and not
accepting an invitation to play college football still
haunted him. Coming in intimidated at first he showed up
to practice on a Wednesday night and intending to try tight
end but found himself starting at defensive end the
following Saturday. Accounting for two sacks and stuffing
the run, the opposing coach could be heard yelling; "RUN
AWAY FROM THAT GUYS SIDE"!
So began a love affair with semi pro football for the
next 15 years. Jeff Played as hard as any and was a
feared defensive end in the NWFL. He was a FASCO All-Star
selection in 1996 and 2001 as an Eagle.
When the Eagles shut down in 2001 he was recruited by
the 2002 Puget Sound Jets and Ken Austin. The Jets went
undefeated and won a national championship with the AFA that
year with Fish playing defensive tackle and backup tight end
to another hall of famer Bryan Pittman who went on to play
in the NFL with the Houston Texans.
Upon moving back to Bellingham in 2004 he was asked to
be a player/coach for the newly formed Northwest Avalanche.
With the Avalanche, Jeff played on and coached the defensive
line , eventually taking over as defensive coordinator in
2007.
In 2008 Jeff was coerced by fellow player Joe Porras to
make football great again in Bellingham by taking over
the Avalanche and taking some of his marketing ideas and
men’s ministry experience re-branding the team to become
the Bellingham Bulldogs. The Bulldogs were a team built
with character over talent. In only his 2nd year as an
owner, the team of young talented Northwest Washington
and Canadian players rose to 3rd in the country (North
American Football League) Big Fish had built a winner
with only 6 guys that had ever played semi pro ball in their
past, with the rest of the squad being "new bloods".
The 2010 rolled to a 13-0 record in the NAFL and played for
the NAFL National Championship in Myrtle Beach, SC falling
just short to the Nashville Storm.
The proudest accomplishment for Jeff with his Bulldogs
was being the only team ever awarded the NAFL Team of the
Year 2 years in a row for the class act the Bulldogs were
both on and off the field. 3 weeks later Jeff suffered a
stroke and had to give up Semi Pro football but the
relationships, camaraderie and love of the game at this
level will always be with him. NO matter where Jeff ends
up in his life he always has been and always will be a
Seahawk fan for life.
Playing in three All-Star
games and two National games including the 2002 AFA
Championship with the Puget Sound Jets and the 2010 NAFL
Championship with the Bellingham Bulldogs, Jeff was known to
take the bests parts of the semi pro game and put behind it
a business and marketing mind that was well above his peers
in the Northwest Leagues as the owner of the Bulldogs.
In his words:
"LIFE: Jeff lives with his wife Allison of 18 years, his two
boys Lucas (12) and Aidan (16). He is a part time men’s
minister and hopes to be doing that full time by 2020. He
has coached several youth teams with his son who played
in the Pro Football Hall of Fame National Championship
Series in 2018 at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton,
OH.
Greatest Highlights of Jeff’s Life includes all the
above, bodyguarding his greatest hero of all time Mohammed
Ali. Winning men’s hearts for My Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ"
