John Tresch

Auburn Panthers

Safety

1984 - 1986

The Auburn Panthers were dominating the scene in the mid-80's with offensive star and Hall of Famer Harry Washington, and later fellow Hall of Famers in Linebackers Madland and Matychowiak.  But, possibly the most dangerous man on the field was the quarterback of the defense in the 6'2" 215lb John Tresch.  Known as a big hitter, this was the era of NFL legends Ronnie Lott and Kenny Easley, and in the semi pro ranks it was John Tresch.

With the rules of the 80's much different than today, receivers were actually afraid to go over the middle if they had any doubts about a QB's accuracy.  A little high on the post pattern and the former Columbia JC product would have a free shot at exposed ribs, low or wide, and a stretcher ride to the locker room might be the end result.  John took full advantage of the intimidating presence he presented by leading the league with 10 interceptions in 1985 enroute to another undefeated season.  Tresch followed up that stellar season with three interceptions against the West Seattle Warhawks on Aug 9, 1986.

The former Evergreen High star running back and defensive back was selected to the Washington East-West All-Star game in 1981 going on to Columbia Basin Community College.
