The Longhorns were born out of the turmoil following the BC Spartans collapse and were immediately handcuffed with a road-games-only schedule due to the border crossing restrictions into Canada which proved to be a sticking point for many players during the Spartans season of 2008. The NAFL cited the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, implemented in stages from 2007 to 2009, as a reason for American teams being prohibited from playing in Canada. The Longhorns survived just one game getting blown out by the Bellingham Bulldogs. The rest of the season was forfeited and ended the international-flavor of American football leagues in Washington from that day forward. Canadian players who wanted to keep playing and could cross the border, made their way to the Bulldogs winning the 2009 NAFL Northwest title. DO YOU HAVE INFORMATION TO CONTRIBUTE? CONTACT US!
