Cook spearheaded a Fort Lewis offense that shut down the
Seattle Ramblers that was undefeated just two seasons
prior. The commissioned Lieutenant from Oklahoma
City, played his college football at Oklahoma A&M from
1947-1951 earning All-America honorable mention honor
and played in the Blue-Gray and North-South All-Star
games.
Engineering seven victories during the
regular season, the three losses were to the University
of Montana and California military base teams including
the powerful Hamilton Air Force Defenders and a
one-point loss to Fort Ord, Cook and the 4x4s defeated
the Seattle Ramblers three times with the third win in
the Queen City Bowl giving Fort Lewis it's first and
only Queen City Bowl Championship Trophy.
Addendum: In the movie Pork Chop Hill, Lt. Robert
S. Cook, portrayed by actor Leonard Graves, made himself
a human bridge for his men to go over him. Bob
served in Korea, Lebanon, and Vietnam, awarded a bronze
star and purple heart, retiring as a Lt. Colonel.
He passed away in Tacoma in 1980.
