Formed in October of 1908 as a new team by the Hurley Brothers Joe and Jerome to play in the 135lb division of independent Portland teams.

When Holladay and McLaughlin played for the 1909 championship, Portland's mounted police used their horses to break up squabbling fans and clear the field at times during the game.  After the loss, the McLauglin Club refused to recognize Holladay as champions* as they backed out of the remaining two games reportedly agreed upon prior to determine the city champion.  In the finale, McLaughlin traveled to Vancouver to play the Columbia Athletic Club.  Not only did they find themselves playing against a larger team bolstered by Vancouver Barracks 176-lb all-star halfback Miller, and six members of the St James College team, when they went in at halftime tied 0-0, they found their belongings ransacked and every cent taken from pockets.  Upon learning of Vancouver's use of overweight and unrostered players, the referee forfeited* the game to McLaughlin 1-0 at which point the Vancouver players took all of the admission money and hiked.  McLaughlin was to receive part of the gate to pay car fare back to Portland.

When McLaughlin took on Piedmont for the 1910 Christmas Day championship game, Gianelli, Campanion came over from the defeated Catholic Young Men's team to strengthen the lineup.  A second team of 125-pounders played North Portland for that weights championship on Dec 18th, 1910*.

McLaughlin sported two teams in 1912, a "senior" team in the 140lb Portland City Amateur League and a "junior" team in the Arthur-Wiggins 135lb League coached by Multnomah Athletic Club end Dom Callicrate.

McLaughlin would give way to baseketball in 1913 and no longer appear on the Portland gridirons.
