John Rossi, TE (2009-NAFL All Star)
The Wildcats were founded in 2007 and kicked off
their first season June of 2008. The team was started by a coach and
some players that had all the love for the game and just needed a way to
express it. The season started out with a good strong team but would
soon dwindle down due to injuries. The players that remained healthy
would have to play both sides of the ball for all the games. There were
times when it seemed impossible but those 15 players battled all season
to the final whistle even with the odds in the other teams favor. After
traveling to Medford Oregon to take on the number 2 ranked Renegades
with 11 players it seemed like it was all but finished. With nothing but
hope and a prayer the Wildcats entered the last game of the season with
those same fifteen players and won the game with the Saints inside the
wildcats red zone with 1 minute left and getting ready to score the
tired Wildcats defense made one last stand and on third down forced a
fumble which the Wildcats recovered for the win.
After the season the Wildcats wasted no time in getting ready for 2009.
Still suffering from injuries and lack of players they continued to
practice knowing they would not repeat history. With 2 months until the
season started the owner had to make a choice he was moving to a
different state and either had to drop the team or give it away. The
team ended up in the hands of a player who was with the Wildcats from
the start . That day the team was told he broke his leg at practice and
things started to look dim again. With 2 months to get going players and
coaches started recruiting and by the time kick off came the Wildcats
had 35 players. The Wildcats didn't have to wait all season for that
first win this year. The season was once again plagued by injury but the
Wildcats ended the season with a full squad and the talent to make a run
for the 2010 championship.
However, 2010
was thrust into turmoil with the Cascade League split and the Wildcats
were left alone while the other teams formed the Western Washington
Football Association. |
