Baseball was the main sport sponsored by the Construction company building ships in the Vancouver shipyard, but in 1918, ventured into the football waters with a few former college players employed there. The team would be coached by legendary Portland athlete Dudley Clarke, the 1911 Northwest Region Player of the Year.

The last minute game scheduled, then canceled with the Multnomah club was part of the drama surrounding the Mare Island Marines wanting part of the gate money with Multnomah on top of a $1500 guarantee.  The team struggled scoring points against primarily military teams from Vancouver and Tacoma in 1918 finishing 0-5.
