This archive is still under research, any information is
appreciated! An independent squad initially made up of former St. Paul high school players and coached by St. Paul's Ken Brophy, Larry Koch and Jim Smith, all former University of Oregon athletes. The former high school and college players played almost exclusively against area junior varsity college teams during its three seasons. Dave Smith intercepted a 3rd quarter Vanport pass on his own 10-yard line and bolted 90-yards for what was the winning score in the Halloween 1948 showdown. As numbers thinned and the losses mounted in 1949, football was replaced with basketball and the St. Paul Mustangs moved to the hardwoods instead of the gridiron.
