Hastings,
one of the most imposing tailbacks in the NFA at 6'2"
200 lbs led the league in most rushing categories on his
way to a 1st Team All-League selection in both 1983 and
1984. For the
regular season, Barry was the workhorse toting the pigskin 113
times for 689 yards and 11 touchdowns, all NFA records
in 1983. Other records set by Hastings on the
season were per carry average (6.0), most yards in a
game (194), longest run from scrimmage (58) and highest
per game average (98.4). His 35 carries on Sept
24, 1984 were second most in a game in Northwest
history, until being knocked into a tie for third in
2009.
Hastings added to
his rushing, receiving and scoring totals in the
playoffs, where Skagit Valley came up short against
Spokane 26-15 despite scoring on a 1-yard plunge and a
70-yard screen pass for both Skagit scores.
Hastings
played at Wenatchee Valley CC in 1980 before
transferring to Central Washington in 1981. He was
a top athlete at Burlington High from 1976-1979, 1977
State Champions in football, 1978 1st Team All-Northwest
Football, 1979 County Champion and Record Holder in
triple jump and high jump.
