Argued to
be one of the fastest quarterbacks to ever play the
position, Cason was a standout at Cleveland High in
Seattle before a record setting career at the University
of Puget Sound. Received a tryout with the
Washington Redskins in 1972 joining the Seattle
Cavaliers upon his release and topping nearly every QB
category for the 1973 season and earning All-League
honors.
Posted four
consecutive games with at least one rushing TD per game
while passing for 9 TDs during the stretch. He was
the Cavalier Offensive Back of the Year for 1972 and
1974.
Bob opened the 1973
campaign with 12 TD passes and 3 rushing scores in the
first four games of the season. Cason would later
set a record with 7 total touchdowns in a game on Oct
27, 1973 rushing for 2 scores and throwing 5 TD passes
in the season finale before adding 1 more rushing score
in a 6-0 win over the Seattle Bulldogs for the "city
championship". As great as his 1973 season was, he
was nudged out of the Player of the Year spot by Pierce
County Bengals wide receiver Ira Hammon. Cason and
Hammon would find themselves teammates on the Washington
Redskins in July of 1974.
