1998 Northwest Player of the Year

Neil Clasen

Defensive End

Portland Thunderbolts

Hands down the NWFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, Clasen recorded 50 tackles and 28 sacks in his debut season that still stands as a Northwest record.  Adding 20 QB hurries and recording a league leading 4.5 sacks in one game, Neil was the single most dangerous defender coming off the edge the league had ever seen.

His dominating line play helped lead the T-bolts to a 16-0 record and a berth in the MLFN Challenge Bowl against the legendary Marlboro Shamrocks.

Also recognized as the NWFL Defensive Player of the Year to go with his Rookie of the Year honor and 1st Team All-League selection.

Only played one more season but in '99 set another Northwest record with 9 blocked kicks (4 punts, 2 field goals and 3 PATs) before retiring from football with his second 1st Team All-League selection and Defensive MVP honor.  Continued his athletic career as a rugby center.
