The newly formed Cardinals announced an 11-game debut schedule in May of 1999, however the team never got together and the season had to be put off until 2000.

Once they did take the field, a 7-3 record and Rocky Mountain League West Division title was the reward.  Their chief rival, the Bozeman Kodiaks ended the Cardinal cinderella season in the playoffs after having lost in August to Boise.  Linebacker Patrick Avent was named defensive player of the year.

The Cardinals morphed into the Boise Roughriders prior to the 2001 season when they joined forces with the Treasure Valley Cowboys.
