With the Cowlitz County Blackhawks future uncertain, former team captain Joel Royce began formation of the Cobras following the 2014 season. Granfathered into the Western Washington Football Alliance as the replacement team for the 'Hawks, Cowlitz continued to sport a team in the region. Finishing 2015 with a 2-8 record, the franchise continued to recruit and build going into the 2016 season. On paper, the 3-7 record was only a one game improvement, however the Cobras began to win close games, while keeping others within striking distance. All three wins came by a total of nine points, and had Cowlitz improved offensively, three games could have flipped in 14-9, 9-7, and 17-7 losses.

The 2017 season was the franchise best going 5-4 in the regular season that started out 1-3. A finale forfeit from the Puget Sound Outlaws led into a playoff match with the Nighthawks, where an inconsistent offensive performance led to a 37-14 loss.

Offensive woes continued in 2018 with a 20-point showing in week 2 was tops and the Cobras occupied the cellar of the WWFA during an 0-7 season. The July 21 game with Pierce County would be the final game of a franchise that won just 10 games in 37 tries.
