Created in 2014 by Jeff Wilder, the Blackhawks embarked as a probationary expansion team in the Western Washington Football Alliance starting in May with the Washington Cavaliers.  Four straight losses were broken up by two game cancellations, but on June 21 the 'Hawks got their first win in the Cavaliers rematch.  Anthony Pender tossed scoring passes to Cody Hunter and Tre Moreland, while Hunter picked up a fumble for another score to secure the 20-6 win.

Following the season, the PDFL (Professional Development Football League), attempting to reconstitue after collapsing in 2013, courted Wilder to bring the team in as the "Vancouver Hawks".  The uncertainty and massive travel proposed by the PDFL to Texas, and Idaho to start the season, prompted some players, including team captain Joel Royce to continue on a more "local" level with the creation of the Cowlitz County Cobras which would join the Western Washington Football Alliance for the next four seasons.

A partial schedule was released for 2015 starting with a road trip to Boise, Idaho to face the Generals, however, the Generals had folded after the 2014 season, and the 'Hawks, along with the PDFL reboot collapsed.

A social media announcement in late 2016 announced the return of the team planning for the 2019 season as the "Southern Washington Blackhawks", however the team never did materialize with Covid-19 shutdowns looming on the horizon that ended semi-pro football in Oregon and Washington for the better part of 2020 and in to 2021 ending any chance the Wilder-led team would make a return.
