The Monarchs started out in 2006 as part of the
Oregon Football League where they enjoyed moderate success as they got
their footing. By 2008, Whartan and Company had built a solid
organization that would catch it's stride in April of 2008 after a 2-2
start to the season. The Monarchs would go 54-4 through the 2012
season winning four GNFA titles. QB Russell Schneider would
rewrite the record books owning every major QB
record.
Upheaval would rock the organization in 2013 as the Wharton's looked to
step away and coaches and players left for a doomed one-year PDFL
venture with the Portland Boltz.
The remaining players would battle to a 5-7 record narrowly missing the
PFL Championship losing to the Buzzards 23-19 in the playoffs.
The loss of Russell Schneider and company along with Coach Fentress was
too much to overcome. Those players would end up with the Portland
Raiders after the Monarchs ceased operations.
The split was deep among Monarch loyalists and the players who followed
Fentress to the Raiders. Those not going to the Raiders formed the
backbone of the Portland Pitbulls which
began play in 2014.
