Strozyk
exploded in the 2009 season opener with 4 sacks against
the Wenatchee Rams, eventual WFL champions. The
following week Ron recorded 3.5 sacks against the
Spokane Wolfpack, eventual WFL runners-up. His
consistency throughout the season led him to 16.5 sacks
on the season, 21 tackles for loss, 18 quarterback
hurries and 4 forced fumbles in just 8 1/2 games.
He was a unanimous 1st Team selection in the WFL, the
GNFA and as the GNFA Defensive Player of the Year.
Minor League Football News tabbed Ron an All-American
and the Western Football News named Strozyk to it's 1st
Team selections. Ron also served as team Chaplain.
When asked
who was more difficult to game plan against, Strozyk was
again a unanimous choice by opposing coaches who were
forced to double team Ron with tight ends and at times
bring a third back out to contain the man Randy Worrell
tabbed "Ron Stro-Sack" on his Comcast play-by-plays.
Ron was also utilized as a tight end in South Sounds'
power set snagging his first TD reception of his career.
Strozyk
graduated from Graceland University as a highly
decorated defensive player earning Don Hansen's Football
Gazette NAIA All-American in 2005 recording 18 tackles
for loss, and as a 2-time All-Heartland of America
Conference defensive end. He was with the Omaha
Beef of the United Indoor League in 2006. In
two seasons as a Shocker, Ron set team career records in
sacks, tackles for loss, and quarterback hurries.
In one of
the closest polls since the GNFA started the award; Ron
Strozyk edged 2008 Player of the Year Russell Schneider
by a single vote.
