Pete Ohler would sign with the BC Lions where he
was back up QB for the 1967 season, and announced as the starter in
1968.
The team was courted by the Continental Football
League officials, and even with financial feasibility concerns expressed
by BC Lions GM Denny Veitch, Sal Rosen of the CFL convinced the
franchise to join the Rangers and Bombers into aligning with the
California teams of the CFL for 1967.
Victoria's head coach and assistants took
over the franchise after seven games when it became apparent the front
office was not fulfilling its obligations. The team was renamed
the "Tyees" for it's remaining five games. They were
still known as the Steelers by most fans.
After going 4-8 in the '67 season, a January
article put it out that Don McKeta lost $40,000 after picking up the
reigns of the struggling franchise, and a $5000 franchise fee was due
January 31, 1968 to remain in the league.
Lafa Lane, President of the CFL's Western Division announced that McKeta
and Victoria would be relocated to Spokane, Washington initially
referred to as the "Inland Empire Shockers"
