Organized in September of 1909 by attorney Arthur B. Melzner, a former
Wisconsin quarterback, and manager J.D.
Murphy Jr.,
Centerville was the crown jewel and the winner of 10 consecutive league
championships, only interrupted by the flu epidemic of 1918 when the
season was called off in Butte. Melzner was coach of the School of
Mines in 1907 and a highly sought after high school game official and
referee.

James "Jimmy" Freebourn would become an attorney, and spent 32 months in
service during WW2 including 21 months in the South Pacific. In
1946 he would throw his hat in the ring as a candidate for Silver Bow
County Attorney.
