The Idaho Buccaneers were announced as an independent team for the 2009 season by Chris Reynolds whose brother Tim, owned and operated the South King County Colts in the Tacoma, Washington area. No games were reported for 2009 but the team drew interest from the upstart Professional Developmental League and was granted league membership for 2010. With the entry into the PDFL, scheduled games with the Colts and Idaho Falls Mustangs were canceled in May. The franchise opener was a road trip to Bellingham, Washington to take on the Blitz who whipped the Idahoans 49-0. The rest of the month of June was forfeited, until the Tacoma Cobras finally arrived in Boise for the teams first home game. The Buccaneers shockingly upset the Cobras in overtime 36-30 for the first win of the season. Boise would notch another win at Portland before traveling to Bellingham again for the PDFL playoffs with a 2-2 record. Once again the Blitz walloped Boise 58-8. Chris Reynolds was named PDFL Coach of the Year and wide receiver Jovan Lincoln was named Co-Rookie of the Year and Special Teams Player of the Year. Four players were named All-PDFL performers. The struggling PDFL, with only four teams and none very close to Boise, Buccaneer management got aggressive scheduling 8 non-league games to go with the 8 league games on the schedule. Following a scrimmage with a local ICFL team, the Bucs traveled to the Snake River Sabercats suffering a one-point set back. Four straight losses ensued sandwiched around canceled games with replacement teams before the Bucs finally hit the win column by avenging a week 2 loss to the Umatilla Panthers at home. Finally on June 11th the Bucs met a league foe in the Cobras losing by 20. The following week, the Bucs traveled to Tacoma but not to play the Cobras but to play the Pierce County Bengals. The Bucs managed a 25-15 win over Pierce County marred by 14 fumbles and interceptions committed by the Bengals. A game with Utah fell through when the Cobras couldn't get the participation needed to make the game. In what would be their only 2nd game of the PDFL season, the Bucs found themselves in a de facto league championship game a month early after the league and Cobras began to collapse. The make shift Cobras squad won PDFL Bowl III 40-7. The Bucs finished with a 2-7 record and put away the gear for good. DO YOU HAVE INFORMATION TO CONTRIBUTE? CONTACT US! (email)
