Created in 2005 by Dallas Hoffman, the Sabercats are a study in patience. A zero win team that first season, the wins were lean with three wins the next three seasons, but upped the win total to two in 2009 but five losses came by one score which could have flipped the season. Coach Hoffman was a finalist for RMFL coach of the year for the effort. 2010 brought a 4-win season and neared .500 when the team made the decision to relocate their home field across the border to Ontario, Oregon.

In one of those 2010 non-league games, the Sabercats dropped a two-score fourth quarter lead in the final 2:20 of the game with the final TD by the Utah Fighting Irish coming with 5 seconds remaining to win 29-21.

The bold move to Ontario may have been what was needed as the Sabercats had their best season in 2011. Starting out 1-2, Snake River strung together five consecutive wins to reach the playoffs then knocked off the Idaho Matadors and Idaho Mustangs to advance to the AA RMFL Championship game. Great Falls repeated a week three victory over the 'Cats to take the RMFL championship and end the dream season for Snake River.

The 2012 season was a reversion to sub-.500 play as the team finished 3-5, two wins coming against the Gem State Guardians including a 78-0 finale. The previous Guardian game was a 52-7 knock out as well.

The May 19th, 2012 against the Boise Generals was dedicated to an Eagle High player battling health issues whose high school coaches included a number of Generals players, with all proceeds from the game going to the young man's medical care.

Following the 2012 season, Tom Bennett would take over the team and create the Idaho Lancers.
