Tom Bennett took over the Snake River Sabercats following the 2012 season and rebranded the franchise as the Idaho Lancers for the 2013 Rocky Mountain Football League season. Bennett, a record-holder as one of the oldest quarterbacks to throw a touchdown pass at the age of 53 with the 2012 Idaho Matadors, would step away after the 2013 season.

The team struggled and finished 0-8 that first season and looked to make some strides in year two.  The Lancers were able to do just that capturing their first victory over the Mini Cassia Diggers 12-3 in week four.  Idaho would close out these season with a 4-2 run that included a playoff loss to the Davis Vipers to complete a 4-5 season under new sponsor Derek Self.

The 2015, with a name change to "Middleton" and league change to the Idaho Contact League, opened with a 35-0 loss to eventual champion Idaho Tribe and the season regressed to a 2-6 campaign with wins coming against the Mountain Home Warriors and Canyon Phoenix in back-to-back weeks sandwiched between six losses.  On August 24, 2015, Mr. Self announced via FaceBook he was shutting down the organization, another casualty of not having enough off-field infrastructure and man power to keep going when the leader needs to step away.

The Lancers attempted to reorganize in 2022, but eventually became the Idaho Gators under head coach Brandon Upchurch.  A Facebook post on August 8, 2022 announced the return of the "Storm Troopers" with the expectation that the former Idaho Gators would become the "new" Lancers.  The Idaho Warhawks were the resulting entry to the ICFL and the Lancers name was still not renewed.
