Following a very successful 2008 inaugural season, a drop off was probably inevitable. Many of the Blackshirts had come over from the spring league Oregon Monarchs and after back-to-back seasons and another spring season to kick off 2009 some players had played nearly 35 games in 12 months with the core deciding to hang up the cleats for the year.  Many key players from the '08 season including GNFA Northwest Player of the Year Russell Schneider did not return.

The 2009 season without the Monarchs players proved too difficult and the Blackshirts season was disastrous and the team folded at the end of the year.  Some of the remaining players and coaches would surface in 2010 with the Northwest Terminators.

Russell Schneider having amassed over 6,300 yards passing and 82 touchowns during 25 games in two leagues/seasons through dual 2008 seasons, would go on to rewrite the record books in the Greater Northwest over a career that went through 2024 setting the career marks in all passing categories as well as most of the season records and per game records.  Russ would be a 5x GNFA Player of the Year setting another individual record.  His favorite target Kyle English also played both seasons in 2008 setting marks of 73 receptions as a Monarch followed up by 64 as a Blackshirt.  All totaled, English counted a record 1,528 receiving yards in the spring and added 1,167 with East County for 2,695 total receiving yards. Kyle is also the record holder with 24 receiving TD's as a 2008 Monarch adding 16 more as a 2008 Blackshirt.

Terminator head coach Aaron Fentress would also leave his mark on the Northwest with 149 head coaching victories and a record 11 championship game appearances winning 6 in a career that spanned over 20-years.
