The Pioneers history is still a work in progress.

The first mention of the team is during the turmoil of 1980 and 1981 when the Northwest International League split into the Northwest Alliance and the Pacific Northwest Leagues.  The Peninsula Pioneers appear on the 1981 schedule for the Pierce County Bengals, only to have the game cancelled.  The South Puget Sound Kings were currently playing out of Bremerton Memorial Stadium from 1980 through 1982 and may have absorbed this early attempt to form the Pioneers.  The Kings were formed following the 1979 end of the Kitsap County Chiefs.

The Pioneers would finally appear as a full member of the Northwest Football Alliance in 1984 interchangeably called "Peninsula" and "Kitsap County" depending on the reporting news source.  After six losses to open the season, the Pioneers finally got their first win in a defensive battle with the Seattle Cavaliers 8-3.  Peninsula would forfeit the following week to the eventual league Champion Auburn Panthers to close the season.
