Rick Winkley formerly the owner of the Roseburg Valley Thunder of the
PNFL, bought the rights to the
Washington Cavaliers from Bill
Booth in 2017 and announced the formation of the Pacific Northwest
Cavaliers organization that would begin workouts in October with
hopes of hitting the field in the summer of 2018 in the WWFA.
In January of 2018 the Cavaliers took the field in the Pacific Northwest
Football League out of the Portland, Oregon area where it finished 0-6
and being outscored 368-0.
Playing a second season in the WWFA beginning in May of 2018, the
Cavaliers hoped to compete with the major summer league teams. The
results were much the same as the Cavs lost four straight to open the
season. Finally breaking through the win column 10 games into
their 2-season run, the euphoria was short lived as the Pitbulls laid
down a thumping which was followed with a forfeit to the Spokane
Wolfpack. Due to some oddities in the WWFA, the Cavaliers
qualified for playoffs with a 1-5 record only to be bounced by the 4-5
Kitsap Storm 47-0.
Joining the NWFL for 2019 the Cavaliers returned to the Bill Booth-era
"Washington Cavaliers" name with black, red and white color schemes.
The change did little as the Cavaliers turned in a 0-6 performance
marked by forfeiting their final two games after failing to score points
in the previous four outings.
The NWFL along with most of the associated teams never returned to
action as 2020 was lost to Covid-19 shut downs. The Cavaliers
among them with a 1-18 record to show for their three seasons.
