Formed as an 8-man franchise in 2014, the Storm made their way to the
WWFA in 2016 struggling to a 2-7 record. Bolsterd by active duty
naval personnel, the talent level ticked up, however deployments
interrupted most of the momentum during the 2017-2018 seasons.
Signature wins were posted over the Grays Harbor Bearcats, Northwest
Hurricanes and Renton Ravens as the squad went 9-12, qualifying for
playoffs in 2018.
The 2019 Storm started out of the gate with a franchise first,
defeating the Spokane Wolfpack 28-20 and high hopes of a solid run.
But the new NCFL was the toughest lineup in the region and the
competition quickly stiffened including a follow up defeat by the
Wolfpack at home and ending with a 56-0 playoff loss to eventual
Champion, South Sound.
Following the season, Baxter and Nighthawks owner Ryan Berndt agreed to
a merger of clubs as the Storm, rebranding and rekindling the Kitsap
Bears name, last used in 2013, looked to compete on the national level
as the original Bears once did in the NAFL in 2008 and 2010. This
time, the Gridiron Development League would be the destination.
The Bears did not make it to the field as issues arose with the GDFL and
then Covid-19 shut down plans for the season. The Storm franchise
would be the end following the 2019 season.
