As teams left the Inland Northwest Football League following the 2004 season, the Spokane SaberCats replaced the West Plains Cowboys as an Evergreen Football League, but immediately felt the pressure of a second team forming with the State Line Miners also setting up shop in the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene region.  The SaberCats would record only one victory over the cross-town rivals between 2005 and 2008 and both teams would stuggle posing losing records over the duration.  In 2009 the management of the teams decided to join forces and create the Spokane Wolfpack and began a climb to being one of the longest running organizations over the next 15+ seasons with four league championship game appearances
