The Valley Mustangs were formed after the split of
the Pierce County Knights by owners Brandon Powell and Rich Winkle.
Winkle would form the Lakewood Wolves and Powell would take the Knights
uniform theme of green and black to the newly formed Mustangs.
In 2007 the Mustangs got on track and reeled off 8 straight victories
averaging over 44 points per game and giving up just 19 before running
into the buzz saw Shockers in the PNFC Championship game.
In 2008, Powell opted to accept an offer to form
the NAFL Northwest division and take his team out of the PNFC.
With the exit of the Mustangs, and the folding of the Wolves and
Dragons, the remaining PNFC teams merged with the Evergreen League.
The Mustangs found the summer venue a tough sell, finishing the 2008
season with only 17 players and a 1-7 record.
In November of 2008 the Mustang ownership opted to
leave the NAFL for the Cascade Football League.
