Formed by a group of players who wanted to play "at home" rather
than driving to Helena, Steve Kurschner and company left the
Titans to start the Snow Devils and
were included in the Rocky Mountain Football League lineup for the
2010 Montana Division.
That first season was tough as the 'Devils went 0-8. Travel,
which it had been hoped would be limited to "local" Montana teams,
didn't materialize as crossover games with Wyoming and Utah made
their way on to the schedule.
2011 started off better as the Snow Devils broke into the win column
on their tenth outing as a franchise, winning week 2 against the
Helena Bearcats. Weeks 7 & 8
produced the first back-to-back wins for the franchise upping their
mark to 3-5 on the season and a spot in the playoffs. Facing
Great Falls for the second time of the season, the result was the
same with a quick exit from the RMFL playoffs.
2012 was a continued struggle, however a bright spot was the rivalry
with Helena heating up as Gallatin Valley maintained a 3-game
winning streak over the Bearcats dating back to 2011.
With the Bearcats dropping out for the 2013 season, Gallatin Valley
had to find a new team to rival with, and it turned out to be the
Glacier Knights. In a 2-6
campaign, both victories were over the Knights including a 46-point
offensive explosion that rivaled the total season output of the
previous two season scoring totals.
Suffering a close defeat at the hands of the Davis Vipers to open
the 2014 season, Gallatin Valley reeled off seven consecutive
victories including blow out wins over
Mini Cassia and
Gem State, outscoring both by a
combined 126-0. Sandwiched between those two wins was a 20-19
victory over the Davis Vipers avenging that earlier loss. A
near upset by Mini Cassia and an overtime win over
Idaho Falls closed out the
regular season only to see the Vipers take the rubber match 14-6 in
the RMFL Playoffs.
The amazing run by the Snow Devils could not be repeated as 2015
ended with a 3-7 record, with the first two losses coming by a
combined 4 points.
Following the 2015 season the Snow Devils franchise shut down after
six years and two playoff appearances, the core that wished to
continue on began preparations to build the
Big Sky Avalanche.
