Michael Connelly - Contributor
Originated in 2002 from the Helena Knights one season of play in the Rocky Mountain Football League, the Titans established the franchise as one of the longest running out of Helena.  The Titans would rebrand as the Helena Bearcats in 2012 and operate through 2013.  Brett Gastineau, younger brother of New York Jets legend Mark Gastineau became the Titans head coach.   Helena Independent Record's Tom Cotton wrote a story on the Titans here: "Remember the Titans".

2002 featured the addition of former Carroll College 1993 All-American kicker Bryan Hilborn who established himself as one of the top kickers in the RMFL over the next four seasons.  Hilborn was a record-setting place kicker at Carroll College including kicking six field goals in a game that still stands.  Helena lost a heartbreaker in week four to Mini Cassia, but would avenge that loss in the opening round of the playoffs in an overtime thriller 18-15.   The season ended in the next round with a second loss to the Silverbacks 23-17.  Hollis Huggins accounted for 13 rushing touchdowns on the season.

The Titans opened 2003 with a 2-0 record before the Madison Lionz crashed the party dominating in a 49-3 win.  Helena suffered through a 1-4 second half of the season and missed the playoffs.  Hilborn and lineman Landon Lamb earned 1st Team All-RMFL nods for the season.  Future GNFA Hall of Famer Shane Jurasek joined the Titans and earned All-RMFL Honorable Mention.

The 2004 squad enjoyed it's best season to-date going 6-2, but a rough outing in the season finale to Boise foreshadowed the playoff round as the Salt Lake Nemesis stole away a 1-point victory to close the Titans season at 6-3.

Redemption was on the Titans mind as 2005 broke, and Helena rode the fortunes of a new found offensive scoring machine, stalled only by two losses to the Raptors by a total of 3-points and a 49-47 shootout loss to the Mustangs.  But the first-round playoff road blocks continued as the Utah Blitz provided an early exit to the season 30-19.

The RMFL shifted divisions and the Titans found themselves in an expanded Montana AA division for 2006 that featured newcomer Bitterroot Blaze.  The Montana battles were evenly matched as all four top members of the North division experienced four losses on the season.  The final two losses of the season to Great Falls and the Raptors cost Helena a spot in the playoffs.  Eddie Sullivan at wide receiver and Landon Lamb gained 1st Team All-League honors.  Lamb became the Titans most decorated player with his fifth All-League award and third 1st Team selection.

2007 through 2009 had the Titans in a consistent competition space as the finished 3-5, 3-5, and 2-6 the next three seasons.

Following the 2009 season, Steve Kurschner and few other Titans wanted to play closer to home, leaving to create the Gallatin Valley Snow Devils in the Bozeman area.

A depleted Titans managed two wins during the 2010 season, but did get a 16-6 victory over their newly minted friends/rivals Gallatin Valley.  The Titans franchise would close the doors after the 2010 season and would be replaced with the Helena Bearcats for the 2011 and 2012 Rocky Mountain League seasons playing out of Boulder, Montana.

Former Titan place kicker Bryan Hilborn was inducted into the Carroll College Saints Hall of Fame in 2018.

Former Titan QB Shane Jurasek completed a 17-year career spanning 1999 - 2016 and eight different teams and was elected to the Greater Northwest Hall of Fame in 2019.
