A conglomeration of former Gallatin Valley Snow Devils, Helena Titans, Helena Bearcats and Glacier Knight players, the Avalanche formed in January and were granted entry into the Rocky Mountain Football League for the 2016 season.

After competitive outings in the first two weeks, the Avalanche felt the weight of the RMFL at the hands of the Gladiators and Billings Xtreme by the end of an 0-8 campaign.

Shane Stephenson and Kendall Stewart would build the Helena Guardians for the 2019 season bringing Coach O'Dell along as backfield coach.
