The Cascade League played the 2007 with four
teams, while the advertised Puget Sound Blue Thunder team never took
shape. The Whatcom County Raiders based out of Bellingham defeated
the Olympic Peninsula Eagles for the first championship of the fledgling
league. The Eagles were then crushed 70-0 by the summer league
King County Jaguars in a western region playoff game.
In 2008 the Raiders ran away with the CFL title
scoring a new CFL record 375 regular season points. After a month
off, the Raiders returned to action against the NWFL's champion Puget
Sound Titans and were defeated 27-3, but were still invited to a Far
West Football Alliance bowl game where they earned a 20-19 victory over
the West Coast Trojans from Las Vegas. The Puget Sound Pirates
played their first season going winless and barely fielding enough
players at the end of the season to keep the team alive.
The 2009 season saw a massive expansion as the
CFL doubled in size adding former NWFL teams the Seattle Stallions and
Renton Ravens, former NAFL teams Valley Mustangs and Kitsap County
Bears, while the Tacoma Warriors and South King County Colts were new
formations. The Mustangs would be expelled from the league after a
member of it's administration was embroiled in legal issues.
In late June Dick Seuss announced he would step
down as commissioner installing Don Whedon Sr. as the interim
commissioner. Later that same year, a vote of no confidence in
Whedon resulted in the return of Seuss.
In a stunning upset, the Renton Ravens toppled
the undefeated Seattle Stallions in the championship.
As the 2010 season kicked off, turmoil ensued
lead by the Tacoma Warriors forfeiting of their first 3 games.
Tempers flared and by the middle of May the league fractured with Dick
Seuss, Kevin Kinsey and Doc Dreesen pulling out and forming the Western
Washington Football Alliance. The Northwest Terminators were
snatched up to make up the four team league for the remainder of the
2010 season. But by May 15th, the Pacific Northwest Wildcats stood
alone watching the Terminators being invited as the WWFA replacement for
the Warriors. The Invaders and Colts joined the WWFA as well
crippling the CFL and forcing it's shut down.
